About
Why Maydm
My personal growth is driven by a desire to uplift and empower others, particularly those who are at a systemic disadvantage in American society. There is so much learning and healing that we have to do as people, in ourselves for each other, and it's not going to come without some resistance. To me, the best place to start that learning and healing process is with our young people. The best chance we have at realigning our societal values away from fear and greed and toward love and enlightenment is by guiding and empowering our young people. Maydm in its mission to lift the whispers of underrepresented societal sectors in STEM fields to an undeniable roar by empowering our young population to boldly represent in such fields is playing their part in that healing process.
Background
Life has taken me to many strange and wonderful places. My most recent journey began with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), driven by my desire to improve global access to reliable energy and enhance people's quality of life. While pursuing my studies, I realized there was a missing variable in the equation, and I found it through my engagement with students and advocating for inclusion and representation in STEM fields as a STEM Program Assistant at the WE Energies STEM Center. This experience led me to make a significant decision to shift my career focus from engineering to education.
During my time as a STEM Program Assistant at MSOE, I witnessed the transformative power of education firsthand. I connected deeply with the mission of uplifting and empowering young people, and I had the privilege of working with a diverse range of students from the Milwaukee area. In this role, I served as an instructor and as a counselor, where I focused on building successful youth communities and inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders.
A first-generation college student with Mexican and Puerto Rican ancestry, I am proud that I can continue to work toward recapturing some of our lost wealth. I have much to learn and plenty to do. There's only going up from here!
